In the Beni region, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, between 10 and 15 civilians have been victims of new attacks perpetrated by ADF rebels affiliated with the Islamic State group since Friday, according to local sources.
Pépin Kavota, president of civil society in Beni, urged the authorities to put an end to this violence, deploring that most of the victims had been beheaded.
ADF attacks have intensified in recent weeks in the region and in the neighboring province of Ituri.
Antoine Kambale, deputy head of the Sayo district in Mulekera, testified to the exasperation of residents in the face of repeated attacks, noting that on Friday, 14 civilians were killed in different places in the district, and that a new attack occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday caused the deaths of two other people, including a woman and a police officer.
